Johnny Robert Wood

Died June 1964 at age 47

Mr. Johnny Robert Wood(s) ran the CC camp. He was a mechanical genius.
He could work on and fix anything that ran on four tires. He reported to George
Ratcliff, the office manager.

To the right as you drove in the driveway on a hill, was where the office staff
worked. There was a beautiful goldfish pond on a grassy knoll right outside where
the office staff worked. They could look out their office windows and watch the fish
swimming. They could take their lunches out and sit around the pool and eat tranquilly,
enjoying the beauty, the peace and their own quiet self time and thoughts. In the
wintertime, when the fish pond froze over, you could still see the fish swimming under
the ice. How they survived so many cold winters, I will never know.

Towards the fairgrounds there were rows of CC Camp tenement houses made of
green wood. Julius "Jude" Ahner and his wife lived there with their married daughter,
Mrs. Julius Lee Ahner. Lenora was married to Raymond Daniels, and they had a son
named Wally, and a daughter by the name of Brenda. I believe, but not sure, Mr. Ahner was allowed to live on the CC camp property because he was the caretaker of the camp.
Later the houses were torn down and the fairgrounds and trade school were built.

This house was a CC camp house but Dad had shingles placed on it when he purchased it.  This was on Constable Street.

SHREVEPORT, LA - Funeral services honoring the life of Lessie Taylor Wood, 87, will be held Thursday, April 9, 2009, 11:30 a.m. at Rose-Neath's Southside Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Cecil Marr. Soloist will be Delores Sullivan Dooley. Interment will follow in Bistineau Baptist Church Cemetery in Heflin, LA. Visitation with the family will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at the funeral home.

Lessie was born on April 8, 1921 in Wyatt, LA. She passed away April 7, 2009 after a courageous battle, living life to its fullest, even with her very weak (but loving) heart. To know her was to love her. She was such a unique and feisty little lady. She was a member of Pinecroft Baptist Church, where she had many friends, as well as the retirement village where she lived. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Lessie was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Jennie Taylor; husband, Johnnie Robert Wood; sisters, Evaleen Dark and Florence Kelly; brother, James Taylor; grandson, Skip Barnhill and daughter-in-laws, Andrea Wood and Angela Weaver.

She is survived by son, Donald Wood; daughters, Vera Weaver and husband, Tommy, Diane La Farlette and husband, Bill; sister, Vergie Sullivan; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth, Shawn and Chase Barnhill, Robert Malone, Brad Warren and Micah Van Ness. Honorary pallbearers are Casey Jones, Kimm Weaver, and Joey Cook.
