Mrs. L.E. Belton (Mary Lee Cole) was my mother. She taught at Dubberly High
School in the 30's and 40's. She also worked at LAAP during the early part of
WWII. My dad died in 1946, and we moved to Minden in 1951, where she taught in
the junior high until her retirement in 1970. She first taught in the old MHS
building which stood where the new building is under construction. When that
building was razed, the junior high was moved to the 1924 building. From there,
she and her colleagues moved over to the brand new Theresa M. Lowe Junior High
on Clerk Street where they all stayed until retirement. She and her fellow
teachers at that 7th and 8th grade level were quite a group.
Mr. R.H. Manning was principal at Dubberly High School (K-12) during the
40's, and his wife, Robbie Davis Manning, taught 1st and 2nd grades there. They
moved to Minden in the early 50's where he became Webster Parish Superintendent
of Schools, and Robbie taught at Stewart Elementary until her retirement.

I was Bob Mannings secretary when he was Supervisor of Transportation and when he was Assistant Superintendent of Schools. He was a very nice, kind boss. I liked both he and Robbie very much. I left the Central Office and was secretary at Harper Elem. in order to have the same hours off as my children.

THE FIRE
In 1921 the downtown of Dubberly ws destroyed by fire. In 1920 some stores were
still in operation were M. T. Worsham's Barber Shop, the Bessie Batton House,
The T. C. Connell Store, The J. C. Worsham Store, M. H. Boyett, W. W, McCoy
Store, The Pat McCrary Store, and the Dan Parham Saloon. You can see pictures of

This is the way Dubberly looked before it was destroyed before the big fire during the twenties. The two story building is the Pat McCrary Store; Dan Parham owned a Saloon next door. To the left of him was the W. W. McCoy Store; Next is the M. H. Boyet Store; J. C. Worsham Store is next door. Thomas C. Connell owned the Store to the left of him. Martha Sue "Sue Baby" Connell
MINDEN, LA - Funeral services for Sue Connell will be held Thursday May 7, 2009
at 2 pm at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel in Minden. Officiating will be Rev.
Rick Wolfe and Rev. Everett Geis, Sr. Interment will follow at Fellowship
cemetery in Dubberly. Family will receive friends from 5-9 Wednesday May 6, 2009
at Rose-Neath.
Sue was born July 3, 1941 in Minden and entered into rest May 4, 2009 in Bossier
City.
She was a longtime insurance clerk at the Shell Plant, P&S & Doctors Hospital.
Her passion was baking cakes and casseroles.
Her parents Marshal Leroy Connell and Joe Eddie Terrill Connell; brother Ernest
"Buddy" Connell and sister-in-law Ruth Connell preceded her in death.
She is survived by sisters Mattie "Snookie" Caskey and husband Billy Wayne of
Arcadia, Virginia "Sister" Davis and husband Al of Minden; brother Roy Lee
Connell and wife Joy Faye of Pasadena, Texas; nephews Wayne Caskey and wife
Vicki, Mike Connell and wife Paula; nieces Kayla, Patti, Katherine Braddock and
husband Robert, Tracy, and Rachel; great-nieces Katlyn and Ruby, and numerous
other great nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Caskey, Brad Reynolds, Randy Reynolds, Tom Kincannon,
Billy Wayne Caskey and Bobby Crow.
Honorary pallbearers will be Al Davis, J. D. Maddox, and Mickey Perryman.
Memorials may be made to Fellowship Baptist Church, Baptist Children's Home or
