Funeral services for Mrs. Wilma Rebecca Cox Perryman will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday,Dec. 16, 2004, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Terrell Lowe officiating.A memorial service is planned for 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 17, at Wesley-McCabe UnitedMethodist Church. Burial will follow at Antioch Cemetery near Minden.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. today, Dec. 15, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Perryman, a resident of Longview, Texas, formerly of Minden, passed away Monday,Dec. 13, in Longview. She was born to William Jasper and Marcella Cox in Amite County,Miss., on Oct. 3, 1910. At the age of three, she and her family moved to north Louisiana.She was a graduate of Minden High School and Meadows-Draughon Business College, andwas employed at various government agencies during the depression and by the Coca-ColaBottling Company in Shreveport prior to her marriage. She later worked for two insuranceagencies in Minden.
She married Robert S. "Jack" Perryman on April 17, 1938. They were marriedfor 54 years until his death in 1991. She was a resident of Minden until June 1,1996, when she moved to Buckner Westminster Place Retirement Center in Longview.There, she became known as "the butterfly lady" for her extensive collectionof butterflies.
Mrs. Perryman served as president of the Woman's Department Club and the Minden Businessand Professional Women's Club. She was also a member of the Caddo Branch-AmericanPen Women, Shreveport Chapter National Society of Arts and Letter, DAR, UDC, ColonialDames, North Louisiana Historical Society, American Legion Auxiliary and a formermember of Lakeview United Methodist Church, where she taught the Good Shepherd SundaySchool Class for 35 years.
Following her retirement, she began free-lance writing after studying at CentenaryCollege. She had several articles published in the Minden Press-Herald, Baton RougeSunday Advocate and the Shreveport Times. She wrote a history of Lakeview UnitedMethodist Church for the church's 20th anniversary, and a history of the McIntyreCommunity for the Webster Parish Centennial Book. She received much recognition forwriting Haikus, a Japanese form of poetry. Several of these poems were publishedin international publications. She also wrote a book entitled, "Martha,"published in 1980.
After moving to Longview, Mrs. Perryman became a member of Wesley-McCabe United MethodistChurch, the Friendly Workers Sunday school class and the Jolly Elders. She was alsoa member of the R.B. Levy Chapter of the UDC, Capt. William B. Young Chapter DAR,the New England Chapter of the Colonial Dames and the SHHH.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and four sisters, Nancy Cox,Oneita Clark, Cecile Weire and Miriam Stutchman; and one brother, John T. Cox.
She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Martin and husband Don of Longview; grandson,Bruce Martin and wife Jennifer of North Richland Hills, Texas; two granddaughters,Judy Rice and husband Steve of Pasadena, Texas, and Lara Blair Manasse of Longview;six great-grandchildren, Joseph and Julie Martin of North Richland Hills, Jacob,Zane and Kendall Rice of Pasadena, and Carson Manasse of Longview; three sisters,Kathleen Rogers of Junction City, Ark., Marcella Shaw of Minden, and Frances Coxof Longview.
Pallbearers will be Bruce Martin, Steve Rice, Blair Manasse, Carl Shaw, John Coxand Danny Martin.
The family requests that memorials be made to Lakeview United Methodist Church inMinden.
